A dedicated server for Quake 2 Weapons Factory mod has been launched on https://q2servers.com
The Server
The "Weapons Factory -R- Legacy" server is based out of Los Angeles and offers players a chance to experience version 4.25 of the WF Mod in Quake 2. The server has been configured to include the 10 authentic classes, weapons, sounds, and maps that are sure to bring back memories for veteran players, and maybe provide an intriguing experience for new players.
In addition, I will also launch a second server with bots, so that players can practice their skills and get a feel for the mod even if active players aren't around. Assuming I can find a working version of these bots.
The Client
Q2Pro is the best client out there to support a more HD visual of the game. This will be uploaded in an easy to install format, soon. Additionally, I'll be providing Hotkeys and Configurations for ease of use when it comes to your primary & secondary weapons, grenades, special grenades and devices for each class, can really make a difference.. and unfortunately there is no default config for each. Never fear, I'll be sharing configurations for each class that match a more modern style of gameplay, whether it be WASD or Arrow Keys.
A Time Investment
To foster a sense of community, I will commit to playing on Weapons Factory -R- Legacy during specific times each week, so that multiple players can jump in and play together. It is important to have a group of players to play with and I want to be the first to provide that experience to anyone who is passionate like me, about the mod and its legacy. I am not 100% what time and day I can commit too yet on a regular cadence, but it'll likely be on a weekend after 8pm pacific time.
Building a Community
If you've seen the vision, my goal goes beyond preserving the legacy of the Weapons Factory mod. This is the first step to building a community around the weapons factory mod. Who knows, maybe we'll have dedicated Q3 and Unreal servers up and running one day. The hope here is to build excitement around the Weapons Factory Mod, which intern would build interest in Weapons Factory: Roblox.
