Player Class Outfits for Roblox Avatars

Roblox is historically about playing your avatar within game experiences. Looking at many successful games on Roblox with high concurrency, it's usually not about choosing a hero character that isn't you, just to be able to get their abilities. It's about you dressing up as that character, and using those abilities as yourself. To cater to this, regardless of avatar appearance using the R15 rig, you can become any class while maintaining your avatars face, hair and the common body styles. Here are two examples.

My Avatar on the left, wearing the base shirt and pants template for the first 3 classes in WFR.

My Daughters Avatar on the left, wearing the base outfit for all 3 classes in WFR.

I'm suggesting base outfit above, because later on I intend to add layered clothing options to give the characters more depth and a more grungy PBR aesthetic to better match the environment, but for now the default shirt/pants template will work to hit the alpha game stage at a faster timeframe.

Why remove a Hat if that defines the way you want to look? My hope is that this design choice resonates with the younger Roblox audience, bringing them back to the game more often.. while also still being able to recognize the class you are battling against.

What does this mean for the previous class designs?

A couple months ago, I posted art like the one below that reflected a modern approach to the original class designs.

After investing some time and money into the first marine character in 3D shown on the right, I decided to hold off on custom skinned mesh and wanted to continue to move forward with the gameplay aspects of WFR first. Therefore, I decided to use some baseline shirt/pants templates that I invested some art in using the players Roblox Avatar body styles.

To be clear, I still intend to make this class design a thing one day.. but it is not priority at the moment. And when giving this concept some more thought.. it's probably a good thing to support the players roblox avatar with an outfit for each class, especially if we provide layered clothing options.
