Goals of WFR
Port over the long lived and most fun Weapons Factory Mod that unfortunately does not currently have much of an active home or fan-base. The WF community played well in games like Quake II, Quake III, and Unreal Tournament.. and never lived a real day in Quake4. This will be the first attempt in bringing the community of WF over to the Roblox Community which hosts millions of young players today.
Capture the roots of Weapons Factory, bringing back the fast paced, class-based teamplay with a Roblox Twist. Bring back all 10 class specs to choose from, with each specialized strengths and weaknesses where working together, can capture the flag, or defend the flag successfully.
What is the Weapons Factory Mod
Weapons Factory or WF, is a game modification for Quake II by brother aliases Tumorhead (Tom Reno) and Headache (Gregg Reno), which was originally based on Team Fortress or TF. It was said, that WF was started when the developers of TF decided not to evolve it into Quake II. WF continued TF’s legacy and evolved from there into Quake II, and then Quake III and Unreal Tournament as well as Half-Life by other developers. Weapons Factory Mod unfortunately died off since then, with a couple failed attempts to bring it back to life from the WF or WFA community, like WFR with the attempt on Doom3 and QuakeIV.
Bringing Weapons Factory to Roblox
I am creating this document as a guide for myself and others in the attempt of bringing the Weapons Factory Mod to Roblox, with a very much Quake 2 Weapons Factory or Q2WF feel into the gameplay, while taking in subtle changes from Quake 3 Weapons Factory Arena, or Q3WFA. There is a small community left on Discord that plays Weapons Factory in its many old forms nowadays, and I am pleased to have been a part of this community for so long. This is a true passion project, to test if WF can be ported to Roblox, in the hopes that WF will tap into a larger community of young kids that might enjoy what Weapons Factory was, with a Roblox social twist, using their Personal Roblox Avatar’s plus valid customizations for that class.
Continuing where others failed
Throughout this document I will be referencing a well written original source here: icculus.org/fi/docs/wf-notes.html which was written when a WF Fan wanted to create a true Q2WF port to Quake III, when Q3WFA2.0->Q3WFA3.0 changed too much. Mod FI as mentioned in that document was never completed. Similarly, Weapons Factory was attempted to be brought over to Doom3/Quake4 by WF Fans, called Weapons Factory Revolution, however was never completed. This means WF:R can be taken, right?
I will be using and/or modifying a lot of data that was written on that referenced page because it outlines a lot of the definitions and details that pertains to important concepts in the Weapons Factory Mod, and does a good job in describing how it felt playing in Quake 2 Weapons Factory, for many aspects of the game. I believe this will help guide the success of this project.
