Based on the WF Mod in Quake 2

Overview

Weapons Factory (WF) is an intense and strategic Capture the Flag (CTF) game mode. With fast-paced gameplay and a range of classes each equipped with unique weapons, grenades, and devices, the possibilities for strategic play go beyond any other CTF experience. Whether you prefer to go on the offensive, hold the line, or mix things up with clever tactics, there is a class for everyone.

Capture the flag rules

A Red and Blue team go head-to-head to steal and capture each other's flags to score points.

However, WF puts a twist on the typical CTF rules.

  • If your flag is stolen and dropped, you'll need to defend it for 30 seconds before it returns to your base.

  • You can capture the enemy flag even if yours has been taken or is not on its flag stand.

Class-based Teamplay

Originally inspired by Team Fortress (TF), WF is a class-based CTF game mode where players can choose from 10 unique classes, each with their own set of abilities including weapons, grenades, or devices. The player can prefer to focus on offense, defense, or causing general annoyance with smaller damage-dealing skills.

Health and Armor

Every class has a different amount of health and armor.

  • A player is dead if their health reaches zero.

  • Armor helps reduce damage taken, but is not guaranteed based on the damage.

WF has the concept of two types of armor, Light and Heavy.

  • Light classes have yellow light armor and move a bit faster.

  • Heavy classes have red heavy armor and move slightly slower than other classes, but usually reduce more damage.

Each team has a safe place called a Spawn Room, where players can go to replenish their ammo, health, and armor. This is a great place to strategize before the game starts, grapple around like a monkey, or go AFK to grab a drink to take a break.

The goal is to stay out of the spawn room for as long as possible and come back to reload when necessary.

Weapons and Grenades

There is a unique set of weapons that can not be changed, dropped, or picked up. These weapons can run out of ammo, but players can pick up ammo packs that restores ammo, health and armor. When a player is killed or "fragged," they will drop an ammo pack on death that contains a small amount of ammo, but no health or armor.

Every class carries at least two unique weapons, sometimes more depending on the class.

  • The first weapon usually has a low rate of fire with a powerful attack

  • The second weapon has a high rate of fire for chasing down enemies.

Each class comes equipped with a set of hand grenades, which usually includes a timed explosion grenade and special grenades with unique abilities or effects that can be used to disrupt the enemy in various ways.

In addition to their unique weapons and grenades, each class also has access to the same "general" weapon, like the Quake 2 Blaster or the Quake 3 Gauntlet, which can be used in a pinch.

Devices

To balance gameplay and improve the capabilities of each class, some may have access to special equipment with specialized functions called Devices that can be persistent and last for a long time, or they may only last for 20 seconds and operate automatically. The player will have activation and deactivation commands to use each device. The owner of a device will always be notified of any events that occur. For example, a player as a marine can set an alarm that will notify them if an enemy player passes the alarm.

Physics

One of the most noticeable gameplay differences in Q2WF are the physics:

  • the way players move

  • the grapple hook

  • the way the players can run

  • strafe jumping

  • or slide across angled floors up onto balconies

To get away with the enemy flag, or to just have fun with player physics.

This means that in order to make it "Feel" like Q2WF, it will depend on the physics being "right". This will be the first and biggest challenge of this project and where we plan on focusing first to see if this is possible to replicate in the Roblox Environment & Platform.

Additionally, The Roblox "Obby" wasn't the first time a game was focused on getting across obstacle courses, Q2WF naturally made this a fun experience where players could do this for hours on end. If you are asking the question.. Yes, We intend to re-invent the popular Roblox Obby with Quake 2 physics, with and without a grapple.

Stay tuned.
